Comic Book Jobs: Marvel Comics (White Plains)

Posted by Tom MasonCategories:Editorials,Movies,Marvel Comics

And so it begins!

Marvel Comics, the Marvel Comics in White Plains, NY that works out of the Disney Publishing offices, is looking for a Designer to join the Disney Consumer Products team, in the Disney Publishing Worldwide division.

You'll need 3+ years of book design experience with the usual get-along and problem-solving skills.

And here's what you'll be working on:

Marvel Origins (Evergreen) Design work of future picture books, readers, an 8x8s, including increasing pub plans of titles based on origins original art work.

Marvel (Movie-Tie-ins) Design work of increasing pub plans for future releases: Captain America, Avengers, and Spider-Man.

Marvel (TV-Tie-ins) Design work of increasing pub plans including: Avengers and Spider-Man.

In addition to skills and experience, Disney would like you to have a "BA/BS or 2 years Technical College in a related field" so dust off that sheepskin and scan it.

Bonus: While it's not Manhattan, White Plains is a big city of 250,000 people with a lot of corporate HQ's in the area.

Comic Book Jobs: Marvel Comics

Posted by Tom MasonCategories:Conventions,Editorials,Marvel Comics

Kapow!

Y’know, it’s always hard to get a job writing and drawing for Marvel Comics. But coming in April, Marvel is making it a little easier to get their attention at the Kapow Comic Con.

According to Down The Tubes, the Cartoon Museum will be “hosting portfolio review sessions with Marvel Comics talent scout CB Cebulski.” David Lloyd (V For Vendetta) will be there, too.

It’s a nice opportunity to get your work in front of a good guy who can help, if only by giving you some honest pointers about your art.

The downside? It’s all taking place in England.

Good luck, job seekers!

iPhone Apps That Sound Like Marvel Characters

Posted by Tom MasonCategories:Editorials,Marvel Comics

Can you imagine if iPhone apps were named after characters from the Marvel Comics Universe? I can...and here they are:

Doctor Bong - A constantly updated map of medical marijuana clinics and how far they are from you right now, man.

Fin Fang Foom - A restaurant locator for sushi bars, steakhouses and White Castles.

Impossible Man - An app for ladies with low self esteem. Automatically uploads photos of wealthy, handsome and available men who just aren’t that into you.

Mr. Fantastic - Lets you enhance photos of your junk before you email them to women you find attractive. Also known as The Favre.

Magneto - Tired of losing your iPhone? This “attractive” app literally magnetizes your iPhone so you can stick it on the refrigerator, the filing cabinet at work or underneath your car.

Zuvembie - A Word-A-Day app for outdated, made-up and useless words. Beta-tested under the name "Sigil."

Man-Thing - Keep track of all your man-stuff; manscaping accessories, fashion tips, grooming updates, tailors, and spas, gyms and squash courts in one handy app for men.
[Note: Giant-Size Man-Thing is available for the iPad for an additional 99¢]

Death’s Head - As soon as a celebrity dies, their head shot is instantly and automatically downloaded to your phone and you get to guess the cause of death.

Hero For Hire - Want to team up with other cosplayers and stalk the night fighting crime and drinking 7-11 coffee? This app has your fellow heroes organized by area code, skill level and imagined powers.

She-Hulk - Need a last minute substitute for your ladies’ softball team? Look no further than this database app of the best available players. Pick from a variety of categories including horseshoers, bodybuilders, gym teachers and more.

Super-Adaptoid - A handy app for the business traveler on the go. This allows your iPhone charger to work in any power outlet in any country, provided TSA lets you take it on the plane.

The Recorder - Forgetful? Need to write things down? Not a problem. The Recorder lets your iPhone start recording the second you open your mouth. Whatever you say can be used to help you.

Uatu - The long-awaited sequel to Uat. ‘Nuff said.

Comic Book Jobs: Marvel Studios Interns

Posted by Tom MasonCategories:Editorials,Movies,Marvel Comics

Marvel Studios, the movie-and-TV division of the vast Marvel Comics empire, is on the prowl for a new season’s worth of interns.

These are part-time, unpaid positions, 20-30 hours per week and involve things like script coverage, internet and comic book research, “typical office duties,” and quick errands (I’m guessing coffee, dry cleaning and picking up comics at the LCS on Wednesdays).

But since this is part of Marvel, you’ll be reading early scripts for Marvel’s upcoming movies and shows, reading comic books and surfing the interwebs. How bad can any of that be?

Marvel Studios is responsible for for the Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four movies, as well as the upcoming Avengers and Thor so there's really no cooler place to want to work right now. Departments looking for interns include: Film Development, Marketing, Legal, Animation and Interactive.

The offices are located in beautiful (and sunny) Beverly Hills, California and you “must be living in the area during their internship.”

Marvel expects a “proficiency in the Adobe Suite (Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)” but then who doesn’t these days?

There’s no mention of college credit, but it’s pretty standard to get something like that out of an unpaid internship.

Good luck, internshippers!
