Kruun versus the X-Men. Today I will be reviewing Uncanny X-Men #537 . Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. Kruun has a plan set in motion. He has a bunch of mutant “cure” which he has used to incapacitate Cyclops, Emma, and some others probably. He “cures” Colossus and delivers a beatdown to him in front of Kitty Pryde, who he plans on killing with a knife made of Breakworld metal that can actually cut her. She runs to her teammates but finds them either unconscious or paralyzed. When her first few choices fail, she heads to Wolverine, who immediately senses Kruun and rises from meditation to face him. Kitty runs for more help but is confronted by Haleena, Kruun’s love who proceeds to cut her throat. Kitty falls into the middle of a ritual circle that Haleena has drawn into the floor. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. Well this issue was a lot better than the last two. It had action, tension, and some decent plot progression. I do still have one big problem with the story though. That problem is the unbelievability that the X-Men would allow themselves to get into this situation to begin with. On an island of telepaths, powerhouses, energy blasters, and untrusting people in general, Kruun was just able to get the drop on all of them. I don’t buy it. That is a hole in the plot big enough to fly a plane through. (Maybe it’s just me). Still, we had some good suspense this issue. We had Kitty being the resourceful woman we all know and love. I can’t wait to see Wolverine versus Kruun. Plus, I’m pretty interested to see if Helena is on our side or Kruun’s. Personally, I don’t think Kitty will die because of the ritual circle she is in. I am curious to see what the ritual will be. The art this issue was a monumental improvement. Much better face work and good imagery. Wolverine on the mountain was pretty cool. Overall, I’m not too impressed with this arc and I can’t wait for it to be over. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.

Uncanny X-Force #10 Review

This issue,The Dark Angel saga prequel. Today I will be reviewing Uncanny X-Force #10. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. Amahl Farouk, the Shadow King, brings some incriminating evidence to a new reporter on Warren and how he’s a cold blooded killer. When Warren finds out, the Archangel persona takes over and tries to kill anyone with the evidence. Luckily Wolverine and X-Force are there to stop him. They get him back to their base and imprison him. In order to save him, X-Force frees Dark Beast to ask for his aid. He informs them that Warren is being taken over by a death seed, created by the Celestials, and implanted by Apocalypse into Warren. Only a life seed can cure him. The only one in existence that Dark Beast knows of is in his lab in his dimension. To save Warren, X-Force has to travel to the Age of Apocalypse. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. Another incredible installment of drama and action. This time around its all about Warren and his struggle against the monster living inside of him. A monster that he has no hope of beating, it seems. I like the way Warren kept on getting more and more evil. His fight with Wolverine was pretty cool. I really enjoyed the way X-Force rescued Dark Beast. Very funny. This one was incredibly well paced and really got me revved up for next issue. I am as excited as a little boy on Christmas eve. I know what’s happening soon and I can’t wait for it to come. Billy Tan drawing Age of Apocalypse should be amazing. He really did an incredible job this issue. The Dark Beast final image was very ominous. The Wolverine/Archangel battle was incredible. Warren’s pinion knives look amazing. In fact, everyone looked really great. The lines and colors and details all meshed together in a wonderful symphony of music. This was a perfect intro into the next story arc. I’m pretty sure Dark Beast has some ulterior motives and a double cross waiting for X-Force but we’ll deal with that when it comes. Maybe he might just request to stay in the Age of Apocalypse dimension once this mission is over. We’ll just have to wait and see. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.

Thanks for your comment, Christopher. What? The one panel he appeared in the entire issue wasn’t enough for you? (Feel the sarcasm). I usually am a Deadpool advocate as well but I was ok with this one. It was a focus on Archangel and he and Deadpool really don’t have much history together.

You mean aside from Archangel being the reason he’s on the team in the first place?

True he was hired by Archangel but the two have never really been shown in actual comics together.

Uncanny X-Force #9 Review

A little bit of vengeance before the storm. Today I will be reviewing Uncanny X-Force #9. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. Warren is dealing with the ramifications of killing a man and the team reassures him that it was a necessary evil. Little do they know how bad the situation really is. Meanwhile, Magneto learns of X-Force’s existence and pays them a visit. He requests Wolverine’s help in killing a Nazi survivor who’s location he has just learned. Wolverine agrees and departs alone to do the job. He reaches his destination and does the deed. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. Billy Tan does another incredible job here. This title has never looked this good until now. Those opening panels with the water crashing against Utopia were stunning. E.V.A. was also drawn quite nicely. Magneto never looked better. The pain on his face when he confronts Wolverine was amazing. Magneto is beyond powerful, but to humble himself and ask for help was a powerful moment. Being jewish myself, I fully understand his fear. In a way, Wolverine might be doing the world a favor here because if Magneto starts reliving his past, he might want to get some revenge and god help anyone who gets in his way. It was also a pretty strong story in general. Remender is setting up moral compasses for each of the team members and, for the most part, is hitting them right on the head. Wolverine is the perfect choice for this mission. While he has a high moral code, he has zero problems killing someone who deserves killing, no matter the age or gender. I like how he did the deed with a look of remorse but conviction. I also liked that the Nazi tried to get in a last lick with a parting threat but it didn’t phase Wolverine one bit. Very emotional issue. Very reality based issue. I felt this one personally. (Oh hell, enough of my moroseness.) I can’t wait for Age of Apocalypse. I loved that X event and am so happy to see it’s return. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.

Uncanny X-Men #536 Review

The Breakworld saga continues. Today I will be reviewing Uncanny X-Men #536 . Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. First, since I missed it, I will review issue #535. Agent Brand of S.W.O.R.D. asks the X-Men for help when she discovers a Breakworld planet destroying ship entering our galaxy and headed for Earth. The X-Men come but what they find is a ship-full of refugees seeking asylum. Onto this issue. After Cyclops grants them asylum, the people of Breakworld settle in on Utopia. Powerlord Kruun, their leader, and the man who Colossus defeated to become the new Powerlord, saves Colossus’ life from a Breakworlder attacker. He then shows Magneto how to work the alien metal of his planet. Asking for more samples, he tricks Magneto into leaving him alone in the lab. He then creates a mutant “Cure” which he attacks Magneto with. Leaving the lab, Kruun goes looking for retribution. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. For now, I’m a little bit iffy on this story arc. Last issue was particularly boring and this issue, while being an improvement, is still not up to the stuff that Matt Fraction gave us. Fraction had multiple plots working well simultaneously while this book is having a tough time keeping me interested with just one plot. If Kruun was going to betray Colossus, why save him or preach to him or try to educate him? Honor, right? Highly overrated, in my opinion. Magneto gets jumped from behind and actually showed “trust” to an invading alien who tried to blow up the Earth? Completely out of character. Emma didn’t psychically try to read Kruun? Far fetched. Cyclops didn’t have watchers on Kruun at all times? Not likely. Kieron Gillen did a nice job with Magneto in 534.1 but is really slacking a bit with the rest of the team. At least there is some humor and action this issue and the story is not too dull. As for the art, it too is so-so. Nice clean images and a decent fight scene. I do have an issue with Dodson’s faces. For some reason, everyone forgot to shave and their facial hair looks like whiskers on a cat. Also, what’s with all of the lines on everyone’s face? They don’t really improve the image and make the faces ugly. The aliens look better than most of the humans. I hope something improves fast cause this arc is not hitting a happy place with me. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
