Irredeemable #20 Review

Tagged with: Boom Studios  Irredeemable  Mark WaidIrredeemable #20

The Plutonian has fallen. Now the clean up begins. Today I will be reviewing Irredeemable #20. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. The Vespa have captured the Plutonian and taken him off of the planet. In response, Survivor declares world peace and a world wide holiday. He declares that a general amnesty will be given to any villains who will aid in the clean up and rebuilding of the world that the Plutonian destroyed. He also calls out to the world for help in finding his missing brother. (And in a secret hideout, his brother responds by sitting up from the coma/death state he was in.) Meanwhile, the Vespa return to their home planet and throw the Plutonian into the Pit where the rest of their prisoners reside. They immediately proceed to beat the Plutonian. The Plutonian, however, doesn’t care or respond because he is daydreaming that he is the world’s savior and is righting all of his wrongs and is loved by all. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. With absolutely no action in this issue, I assumed that it would suck. I was wrong. This issue sets the stage for the next phase in the evolution of this title. Before, it was all about fear and survival. Now it will be about redemption and escape. I assume that when the Plutonian wakes up, he will not be too pleased and will find a way to escape. I also like how Survivor is coming out as the new Plutonian-like character. His parting message was part caring and part zealot. Survivor is, in my view, mentally unstable. Too much power can do that to you. Look at the Plutonian. I like how the Plutonian is dealing with his captivity. He really is a child on the inside, who just wants to be liked. I think he really regrets everything he has done and is looking for some sort of redemption. No Modeus this issue so the villain part was kind of missing as well. But if you look at this issue as a calm before the storm, it really serves as a great jumping on point for new readers. The art was as good as usual. This is still one of the best books on the market today. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
