Scalped #43 Review

Tagged with: DC Comics  Scalped  VertigoScalped #43

Take a brief break from our regular story for a little side tale about a big mouth sheriff who believes his own bullshit. Today I will be reviewing Scalped #43. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. Wooster Karnow is the sheriff of a town in Nebraska. He is a war vet and a killer of many Vietnamese. He talks about his greatness to anyone who will listen. Too bad his life is all a lie. No love, no libido, and no friends. When a real life hero, who is on the run from the law, shows up in his town, Wooster decides to take him in by himself. This mistake almost costs him his life. Good thing a real cop is there to catch the bad guy. This causes Wooster to hate himself even more and he decides to go see Red Crow. But for what purpose? And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. After the many real life difficult and important issues addressed over the last story arc, this issue was one big fluff piece. It’s a complete out of continuity story (except for the last page) that was a complete waste of time. (unless the sheriff is somehow important.) It was still a typical scalped story where the issues are dark and gritty and violent. The art was great, as usual. I especially loved the signed photo on the sheriff’s desk. Being a wrestling fan, I recognized Ric Flair even without reading the signature. Great touch. I hope next issue is better though and we return to the characters we know and love. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
