X-Men Legacy #242 Review

Tagged with: Legacy  X-MenX-Men Legacy #242

The X-Men decide to do a little helping out in rebuilding San Francisco. Too bad not all goes as planned. Today I will be reviewing X-Men Legacy #242 . Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. Told in flashback format, Cyclops trying to figure out what happened during a routine mission to help out in the rebuilding the parts of San Francisco destroyed when Bastion attacked. I seems that Karima, who is really an Omega Sentinel, had some problems with her system which was causing her to revert back to her original programming of destroying all mutants. To top that off, Hellion was having a major temper tantrum and Hope gets caught in the crossfire between these two. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. I like the format of the story. Flashbacks always give you the sense that there is a puzzle to solve but you only get to use whatever piece is given to you and not the one you want. I like how Magneto immediately takes charge. I like how Hope is being integrated into the story. She really is fearless. It’s not a compliment. It’s actually quite sad that this girl had no childhood and had to live with pain, death and loss her entire life. What is a compliment is that her former life has not jaded her to her future. She is still smart, optimistic and well grounded in reality. Her fearlessness does make her occasionally act irrational and stupid. Case in point, confronting Hellion when she knows he has a mad on. If she only let him blow off some steam, she would not be in the situation she ended up in at the end of the book and a civilian would not be placed in danger. I’m also not happy that Karima is reverting back to a Sentinel. I hope that doesn’t happen. She’s a powerful character and the X-Men cannot afford to lose any strong team members. The art is very good. Expressions are clear and the construction site is extremely well detailed. I hope this trend of great art and mainstream character usage continues. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.

I’m not a Carey fan at all or even a Rogue fan but I do give Carey credit with this issue. I spent the entire issue dreading Hellion’s heel turn based on what was on the page so it being the expendable Omega Sentinel was a pleasing swerve that actually surprised me. Tough to do after thirty plus years of reading comics…
