Deadpool Annual #1 Review

Tagged with: Deadpool  Identity WarsDeadpool Annual #1

It’s alternate universe insanity as all hell breaks loose. Today I will be reviewing Deadpool Annual #1. Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. Picking up from Amazing Spider Man Annual #38, Deadpool, Spider Man and the Hulk are stuck in an alternate universe after being caught in an explosion and are trying to get home. In this issue, Deadpool meets his lookalike Death Wish. They get to know each other a little better until Death Mask shows up and kills Death Wish. Turns out Death Mask is the real Wade Wilson of this reality while Death Mask is Victor Von Doom. So Deadpool comes up with a devious plan to kill Death Mask. After some of the usual insanity, Deadpool commits his plan into action and confronts Death Mask, decimating him and blowing him up. He then disassembles his criminal empire. Meanwhile, a healed Death Wish makes a deal with Mephisto to release Demons back onto the earth in exchange for his soul. Mephisto agrees and lets loose the Infernal Hulk. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. To be honest, I did not get the Amazing Annual so I have no background as to how this actually occurred except for the explanation Deadpool gives me in this issue. Since Wade is not the most honest of chaps, I’m not so sure I should believe his explanation. Other than that, I really enjoyed this issue. It was freaking hilarious. I’ve always said that Spider Man and Deadpool have great chemistry together. The sarcasm and one liners they can drop on each other would be comedic gold. They would practically feed off each other’s humor. Villains would give up just so the verbal barrage would end. I also like the role reversals in this issue. It was cool seeing Deadpool as Doom. There were plenty of other cool images here. I love Wade spray painting the Wilson plaque just to rewrite Wilson in spray paint. Moronic as hell, but that’s Deadpool. The hug panels and Spider-Man’s response was priceless. I love how everyone has Dead in their name. The art was pretty cool too. Those Deadpool bombs were a nice touch. The explosions and action looked great. Spider-Man in a cape was strange and I for one am not a fan. I can’t wait to see how this ends in the Incredible Hulk Annual next month which I will be picking up. If it’s anything like this issue, it should be pretty good. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.

Sometimes, being awesome is all you need. I did read the Spider-Man Annual, but I think this is the better of the two.
