X-Men Legacy #249 Review

Tagged with: Age of X  Legacy  X-MenX-Men Legacy #249

Magneto, Rogue, and Frenzy come to a life changing decision. Today I will be reviewing X-Men Legacy #249 . Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. Magneto and Rogue take a trip to a holocaust museum where Magneto tells Rogue a story from his past. He does so in an attempt to push Rogue away after the events of Age of X showed Rogue that she has feelings for Magneto. Too bad her feelings for Magneto only cause her to get closer to him as the two kiss. Meanwhile, Frenzy has an epiphany in regards to her life. In Age of X she had a purpose and a life. She wants that life to exist in the real world. To attain this, she informs Gambit that she plans on changing and becoming an X-Man. As this is occurring, Dr. Nemesis is testing out the device that Legion will use to control his powers and multiple personalities. Too bad six of them don’t want to cooperate and are resisting and rebelling. Legion asks Dr. Nemesis to call his father, Professor X, to help him. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. From the second I saw the cover to this issue, I could tell this would be a powerful story. It was. That cover really conveyed the pain and emotion that is the heart of Magneto. Shaped by the Holocaust, Magneto is not only a merciless killer, but a first hand victim of genocide. Which is what always struck me funny about this character. He was willing to keep the mutant race alive by committing genocide on all of humanity. Yet he’s seen the horror of genocide up close. The irony is deep enough to make you go nuts. In the case of Rogue, he feels that she is pure and his inner darkness would ruin that so he tries to push her away. Too bad she has been pushed away most of her life because of her powers and now she will not be pushed by anyone. These two make a great pair. (Age of Apocalypse proved that) I also love the Frenzy situation. Here is a person who has been a villain most of her life. Now she lived as a hero and saw that being a hero is better. It was a life changing experience. I love her powers (basically a female Luke Cage) and it will be great to have her as the powerhouse of a really powerful team. Plus, with all of the sexual tension between her, Gambit, Rogue, and Magneto, it should be really fun seeing all four interact together as teammates. Lastly, we have Legion. I guess his rebellious personalities will be the focus of the next few issues. I like Legion. Always have. The problem is that Legion has the powers of a god. This always makes stories with him tricky. It will be interesting to see how the writers play this one out. In general, the stage has been set for a slew of great possible story arcs. I can’t wait. PS- the art rocked this issue too. A really good issue overall. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
