The Age of X aftermath begins here. Today I will be reviewing X-Men Legacy #248 . Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.
So let’s talk about the book. Legion has reset reality and everyone on Utopia is dealing with the fallout. Most of the mutants want Emma Frost to remove or suppress the memories and experiences from Age of X because it was too painful. A few, however, refuse to give up the life they had in that reality. One such is Joanna Cargil AKA Frenzy, who was Cyclops’ lover in that world. Cyclops, however, wants no part of her. Also, Revenant, AKA Rachel Summers, is in a bad position as well. It seems her mind was torn from her body, which is halfway around the universe, and now she has no idea where it is. Cyclops vows to retrieve her. Lastly, Magneto and Rogue have a heart to heart. Meanwhile, Dr. Nemesis creates a device that might help Legion control his powers and multiple personalities. And that’s the book.
So let’s talk opinions. This was a pretty nice issue. We really get to see what a person who comes home from war thinks and feels. Let’s face it. Most of these guys are suffering from shell shock. It’s interesting how they choose to deal with it. I was very surprised that Sam Guthrie couldn’t handle the strain. He was trained by Cable, for god’s sake. He should be stronger than this. I was also incredibly happy that someone FINALLY mentioned Rachel Summers again. She, along with Havoc and Polaris have been missing for two years. I thought everyone forgot about them. Not to mention the fact that the Phoenix force left Rachel and she thought it was her mother that took it. Could this herald the return of Jean Grey? (I really hope so. Jeannie always added a ton of tension to the relationships between Wolverine and Cyclops.) The interaction between Frenzy and Cyclops was cool and definitely sets the stage for future troubles. I’m also curious as to where the Rogue/Magneto connection is going. Marvel has been trying to hook these two up since Age of Apocalypse. So many little bits of goodness are in this single issue that it makes me excited to see what the resolutions will be. A really amazing story. The art was pretty awesome too. Lots of characters and lots of details but all drawn incredible well. Not perfect, but very well nonetheless. A great overall book. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
A COMIC BOOK BLOG RATINGProsConsreally great character growth for multiple characters. Lots of potential future stories are laid out here. Now if he’d just drop the Gambit character forever and ever this book could only get better…
ReplyThanks for the comment Steve. Why the Gambit hate? He really is an interesting character. There is plenty of potential with him for some future surprises. His powers are great. He has fighting skills and a rich history. I always thought he was Mr. Sinister’s son. He’s also pretty cool in the X-23 series. Give Gambit some love people*

ReplyGambit is my favorite MARVEL character (and fourth favorite comic book character overall)… I don’t understand how anyone can hate on him… he’s a total badass, and is much more deserving of a large fanbase than a hairy douche like Wolverine… but I digress.
ReplyNow, now Tom. Leave the hairy douche alone. If it wasn’t for him to pave the way, characters like Gambit probably wouldn’t exist. Wolverine, for a good period of time, was the main reason I read comics. I can never hate on him. I am a HUGE Gambit fan though and do agree with you that he deserves more praise and face time. So far, with his supporting role in X-23 and his recent focus in Legacy, he has been seeing a reemergence. Let’s hope it continues. Thanks for your comment.
ReplyFor a second there, Tom, I thought you were talking about me. Then I remembered that none of you have ever seen me in person.
