Daken: Dark Wolverine #9.1 Review

Tagged with: daken  Dark WolverineDaken: Dark Wolverine #9.1

A new direction begins for our title character. Today I will be reviewing Daken: Dark Wolverine #9.1. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. Daken solidifies his hold on Madripoor by killing the last crime boss who resisted him. Before he dies, he insults Daken by calling him a copier. A follower of his dad. A destroyer and not a creator. To prove himself, Daken visits his dad at Avengers tower. After sneaking up on him and threatening his life, he informs Wolverine that he is disappearing for a while to start his life over. Daken then heads to Hollywood. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. This issue was so good for so many reasons. Let’s begin with all of the pages of action and suspense. Daken having the balls to attack Wolverine while surrounded by the Avengers and actually getting the drop on him was freaking awesome. The banter between Spider Man and Wolverine was hilarious and always a plus in my eyes. The humor in general this issue was top notch. Not to mention the complete personal growth that Daken finally undergoes by the end of this issue makes me really look forward to whatever is next for our favorite mohawked antagonist. A really well written story in general. The art was also brilliant once again. Those two paintings were stunning. The Avengers looked great, especially in that first splash page. Though for some reason, the Quinjet, in that first panel, looked a little bit like the Millennium Falcon from the side and Avengers Tower resembled a city on Coruscant. Maybe its just me. In any case, this is a perfect jumping on point for anyone wanting to get in on one of the best anti hero titles on the market today. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.

I’m asking myself if we read the same book…

80% is the max I’d give this book, since it didn’t provide us with anything new. There was hardly any plot, the dialogue between Spidey and Logan was annyoing, the story can be summarized in 1 sentence and if there was more than 1 page of dialogie in total, then I’m already generous. Not to mention the artist drew Daken plain ugly. He didn’t even look half-Asian, which always annoys me with most artists that draw him. Cammuncoli, Choi and Deodato are the only ones that get him right.

The only plus I give the book is that they dared to include a threesome.

Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, I must disagree. Nothing new? How about a whole new direction for Daken. The plot was Daken facing his father and stepping out of his shadow. He accomplished it by breaking into Avengers Tower and literally making the greatest superhero team go chase their own tail. The banter between Spidey and Logan wasn’t annoying, it was hilarious. It was classic Spider Man humor at it’s best. I do agree on the artist and the lack of asian qualities but he really did an excellent job on everyone else and all of the backgrounds. This was a great issue, to me. I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy it as much as I did.
