Thunderbolts #157 Review

Tagged with: ThunderboltsThunderbolts #157

Team Beta gets some action while Team Alpha deals with their own headaches. Today I will be reviewing Thunderbolts #157. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. Satana uses her demonic powers to free her teammates and defeat the evil influence the castle has on her. She also tells the team where to find their enemy but is unable to help because of her weakened state. The rest of the team goes on to find their enemy, who sets a final obstacle in their way. A creature that causes them to live their biggest fear. With the aid of a spell from Satana, Luke manages to escape and free his team, but not before the bad guys escape. In response, Luke shuts down the Juggernaut because he stopped Luke from finishing the bad guy. While this is occurring, a call comes in for a team to go to the Middle East to stop a crisis. With no other choice, the Beta Team is sent there with Luke and the rest of his team arriving in time to join them. All except the Juggernaut. When everyone arrives, they are attacked by thousands of  zombies. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. I want to begin with art. I am not a happy person with this dual artist situation. I need consistency to keep me focused. I liked the Alpha Team’s artist but was not happy with the Beta Team’s artist. Everyone looked completely mis-proportioned and indistinct. Lots of blending between the images kept the overall viewing experience strange. The Alpha artist was much better. Nice big images with lots of action and details. Satana’s hellfire splash was pretty cool. The main bad guy and his wheelroom looked pretty awesome too. Great imagery. I hope we stick to one artist in the future. Moving on to story. Here, I had absolutely no issues. The pacing was perfect. Action packed and entertaining. One issue I do have is that I have no idea why Luke zapped the Juggernaut. Wasn’t he being mind controlled? Shouldn’t Luke have taken that into account before he kicked him off the team? I get it that Juggernaut needs to be off the team when he becomes Worthy (Fear Itself), but this was pretty much out of character for Luke Cage to overreact that badly. He’s usually much more patient. I personally don’t care about the zombie fight next issue but I definitely can’t wait until the teams get home and find a Worthy Juggernaut waiting for them. That will be one awesome battle. At least I hope it will. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
