Green Arrow #12 Review

Tagged with: Brightest Day  Diogenes Neves  Green Arrow Blog  JT Krul  Swamp Thing  Vicente CifuentesGreen Arrow #12Wait… I thought this fight ended?

Etrigan has been defeated, but the battle for the forest isn’t over yet, and its left to Swamp Thing vs his evil Avatar to finish the battle. Meanwhile, Jason Blood retakes Etrigan unto his soul, Ollie reassures Galahad that its the heart of the knight that matters, and then finds his place back on the streets of Star City… his forest, as he calls it.

This issue was lackluster at best. The idea that the fight actually wasn’t over is kind of ridiculous, and actually had me rolling me eyes as the issue began (especially given that it had apparently ended in a fairly solid fashion last issue). That said, I was sort of pleased that the finale of the fight was actually shown in the series that has focused on it the most, even if the idea behind it was never my favorite one to begin with. Aside from this dual edged focus of the issue, the end of it all was quite good. Taking us back into the city with Ollie newly confident in his place within it is a nice way to usher in the future of the series. I just hope Krul will be able to recover from the poor story presented us in the last 5 issues, and push us forward into the future with the same excitement he came onto the title with back in Green Arrow #31, during the Fall of Green Arrow.

The artwork is again fairly consistent, though the early parts of the issue provided both good and bad renderings of our Emerald Archer. The panel at the beginning with the angle of his bow looked like he was holding a stick, and it actually bothered me, but the very next page, we see him with his bow on his back, and he looks almost iconic again. Aside from that, however, the artwork was on par with the rest of the series thus far, and even that was just sort of a nit pick on my end.

Bottom line, I am really glad that Brightest Day is over and that we can now move on to the kind of story Green Arrow deserves. Here’s hoping this series’ future is brighter than Brightest Day.
