Morning Glories #9 Review

Tagged with: Image Comics  Morning Glories  Nick SpencerMorning Glories #9

Time to get a peek at the history of Jun and his twin. Today I will be reviewing Morning Glories #9. Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. This issue focuses on Jun and his past. Hisao, who as it was revealed last issue is Jun’s twin brother, is a bit mental. Turns out the boys had an incident when they were being recruited. When Miss Daramount finds out that Jun was not born at the right time that she thought he was, she refuses him entrance into the school. When Jun’s mother refuses to split the brothers up, Mr. Gribbs beats her to death. Jun witnesses this and runs upstairs and trades places with his brother. Jun is caught and the house is set on fire. Luckily, Hisao is rescued by a man named Abraham. In the present day, Hisao, who is using the name Jun tells his brother what happened but his brother has been brainwashed and refuses to see the truth. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. So while this issue was not as mysterious as the last two, We do get another lie to be added to the list of mysteries surrounding our students. The story was pretty simple and to the point. No suspense, or anything else hidden or mysterious. I don’t know who Abraham is but I’m sure we’ll hear more about him later. I found this back-story pretty boring in general. Even the beating of Jun’s mom was no surprise. I did like that Jun was willing to sacrifice himself for his brother. I can definitely relate to that sort of family loyalty. I would do anything for my kids and this selfless act made me connect to Jun on a new level. I felt even more sorry for him now that his brother has completely rejected him. As for the art, we get the usual stuff. Nothing to intricate. Simple lines and colors. Very little backgrounds or details. At least the facial expressions were pretty nice and easy to understand. Overall, a nice issue but nothing memorable. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.

Why was Jun not admitted to the school though? According to what was said Jun was born on 23:29 and Hisao was born on 23:59. They both were born on May 4th so they should have both still been accepted. This is bugging me so much!

Thanks for the comment Al. I’m assuming that the time, as well as the date is important as well. Maybe it will be revealed in future issues that all of the Glories were born at 23:59. Just add it to the long list of mysteries surrounding this book.
