New Mutants #24 Review

Tagged with: Age of X  New MutantsNew Mutants #24

Age of X comes to a conclusion. Today I will be reviewing New Mutants #24. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. The last battle for the lives of all mutants begin. On one front, all of the remaining mutants head to the battlefield to fight against hundred thousand to one odds. On the other, Magneto and Xavier fight Moira, a reality shaping piece of Legion’s fractured mind. The mutants put up a valiant effort but the numbers are just too many and slowly they begin to fall. Meanwhile, inside the fortress, Moira manages to overpower both of her attackers. Legion, however has had enough. He absorbs Moira back into his psyche and using his new-found powers, ends the battle once and for all. Then, he takes what’s left of the universe and returns it, and everyone else, back to our reality. Everyone’s true memories start to return slowly, especially with the help of the reawakened telepaths. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. So the end happened pretty much like I said in my Legacy #247 review. Legion regains control and warps reality to fix everything. Once again, a rehash of Age of Apocalypse. What a shame. Other than that, it actually was a great action filled issue. Lots of non-stop battle with all of our favorites getting their hands dirty. Wolverine popping his claws for a final fight was expected and I’m glad we saw it. One other thing that was made perfectly clear in this crossover is that Cannonball is an excellent field general. He has always been a good team leader but now I think he would make a great #2 man to Cyclops. Excellent tactician. I am also curious to see how the extra characters like Phoenix will be handled. Are they real now or do they just fade away? It might be fun to keep them around for a bit. As for the art, once again I was blown away. The sheer multitude of characters being drawn, and drawn well, was amazing. The fight scenes looked great and the last page splash of Legion was pretty cool and detailed. Overall, a very well done crossover. One last thing that I really appreciated was the Lewis Carol reference. It was an excellent touch. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
