Hulk #33 Review

Tagged with: HulkHulk #33

The enemies keep on growing as the Hulk tries to survive. Today I will be reviewing Hulk #33. Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. Rulk and his crew of LMDs are still on the move and trying to remove the bombs implanted in Rulk’s head but are not having any luck. So in order to distract him from falling asleep, Rulk is taken to an abandoned airplane graveyard. That’s when the Black Fog attacks. Using stealth and energy swords, Black Fog is able to hurt Rulk and slice him up pretty nicely. Also, because he hasn’t been sleeping, Rulk’s immune system is not healing the wounds right away. Using what strength he has left, Rulk manages to mount an attack and defeat the Black Fog, who is promptly teleported away by Zero/One. While the fight is occurring, an LMD comes up with a virus that will prevent Rulk from changing back into Ross. Rulk finally sleeps for two days straight. When he wakes up, he is given a new mission by Steve Rogers. Omegex is coming to Earth and Rulk is the only one who can stop it. And that’s the story.

So let’s talk opinions. Once again, we are treated with a wonderfully written story. Rulk is on the ropes. His enemies are growing and getting closer to him. His time is running out. That tension and excitement is making me love this story more and more. Just when he beats down one enemy, two more pop up to take it’s place. Now, with Omegex in his future, Rulk is going to have to really dig deep to come out on top. This is great reading. The fight scene this issue wasn’t bad either. Very nicely drawn. Black Fog looked totally awesome. All of the fog and shadows made the battle imagery that much more cool and pulse pounding. I also really enjoyed the LMD/virus subplot. It’s a little bit funny that all of Rulk’s companions are robots. Banner, at least, had Rick Jones or Betty to be his companions. Rulk is really alone. Another beautiful bit of irony thrown into a wonderful re-imagining of what could have been a one dimensional character. I can’t wait to see Planet Red Hulk. If it’s at least half as good as Pak’s Planet Hulk, I will be very pleased. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
