X-Factor #219 Review

Tagged with: Peter David  X-FactorX-Factor #219

Monet cuts loose. Today I will be reviewing X-Factor #219. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. (Since I missed reviewing X-Factor #218 due to having over a dozen other books to review, I’ll cover both issues here.) In #218, X-Factor saved Jameson from being assassinated. Too bad it cost Guido, AKA Strong Guy, his life. Good thing that somehow he was able to survive being dead. (Layla might have had a hand in that.) Meanwhile, the Black Cat is tailing the assassins, who know they are being tracked and are setting a trap. In this issue, X-Factor finds out the true connection between Jameson and his assassins. Turns out they were genetically made by an associate of Jameson. They blame Jameson and this guy for their situation and want revenge. After capturing the Black Cat, the three are about to kill her and their creator when X-Factor shows up. The battle is joined and X-Factor emerges victorious. Monet puts one of the assassins into a come but the other two manage to escape. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. These last two issues were great. The pacing was incredible. I was pretty sure that Strong Guy would not be killed but I definitely like the direction that Peter David is taking this. Layla is a mystery and we’ll have to see exactly what it was she did to keep Guido alive. I’m kind of sad that the assassin story is over now. Those women were pretty intense. They had great powers and amazing chemistry. Especially with Peter David writing all of that realistic and sarcastic verbiage for them. I think that Monet’s little temper tantrum was nice to see but could have been taken a little further. Monet is really the most powerful member of the team and doesn’t really answer to anyone and she needs to be a bit more vicious. She’s in a Magneto position, if you ask me. Part of the team, but definitely a huge threat all on her own. I like that Shatterstar was her Jiminy Cricket this issue. He’s not exactly the most logical choice. Still, I found it extremely ironic. Longshot and Black Cat’s powers counteracting each other was pretty awesome too. Peter David is a writing genius. As for the art, it was amazing. Big, beautiful panels with lots of action and clean images. Plus hot chicks is always a plus. This issue and this entire story arc was very good. One tiny complaint. I want more Layla Miller. When she’s involved in the action, the book seems to get that much better. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
