The Hulks go to war with the Knights of Rome. Today I will be reviewing Incredible Hulk #628. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.
So let’s talk about the book. After a bit of regrouping, the Hulks go after the Knights of Rome, who take the kidnapped doctor and Tyrannus to a flying magically protected fortress. The Knights use magic and create a magical bird that attacks Hulk. Hulk, however, gets angry and manages to overpower the bird and smash it to pieces. Tyrannus, however, has a plan of his own. While everyone is celebrating, Tyrannus attacks their captor and steals their magic for himself, transforming the flying ship into a huge monster. And that’s the book.
So let’s talk opinions. Amazing. That final image of Tyrranus as a giant colossus clutching the Hulk while Rome is laid out beneath him is stunning. The fight scenes where breathtaking. Really big with bold colors. My one little complaint was that in the first few pages, the Hulk’s face was a bit more neanderthacal than I would like. The story was pretty cool too. It was nice to see Hulk go up against a magical entity and actually win this time around. (Of course, the last time it was Zeus so the ass whupping he received then was understandable.) It was also very cool to see both Bruce and Betty as well as Hulk and She-Hulk get back together. These two have stood the test of time over the last fifty years and it’s nice that Marvel hasn’t completely given up on this pairing. I’m also gaining more and more respect for Tyrannus as a villain. He is definitely crafty and devious. He knows how to take advantage of a situation. He reeks confidence. All excellent villain qualities. Another thing that was good was the inclusion of humor and Amadeus Cho. (Not enough though, if you ask me.) Like I’ve said numerous times before, humor improves the quality and pacing of any comic. This issue in particular was perfectly paced. A great read from cover to cover. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
