Batman Vs PunisherStepping into the ring for our opening Fantasy Battle Tournament is the Dark Knight versus the deadly street vigilante. The fans have been polled. Their votes have been recorded. Let the battle begin:

Darkness. All he sees is darkness. Not a problem. The Punisher is used to the dark. He lives in it his entire life, reveling in it’s cold, silent comfort. He thrives in the shadows, bringing his righteous vengeance down upon the criminals and wrongdoers of the world. Right now, though, he has to assess the situation. How did he get here? What is going on? The last thing he remembers is going to sleep.
Suddenly, there’s a flash of light. A voice speaks in his head. “Defeat your enemy and you live. Lose, and you die. Refuse to fight and I’ll kill you both.”
“Who are you?” yells the Punisher.
The only answer is a laugh. Then the light of moon fills his eyes. He looks around. He’s in an alley in a city much like Manhattan. However, there is no Gotham City police department in Manhattan. At least his weapons are here. Guns, knives, grenades. He is armed for war. So where is the enemy he is supposed to fight? The Punisher starts to move, canvassing the area. No one is around. The streets are empty. No life of any kind can be seen. Not a rat on the ground or a bird in the sky. Suddenly, while looking up, The Punisher sees something. In the distance, on top of a building, something moves. A cape, or a man in a cape. The Punisher pulls his rifle out and looks through the scope. He was right. It is a man in what appears to be the costume of a bat. Sitting perfectly still. Hiding in the shadows. If not for the wind moving his cape slightly, the Punisher would never have noticed him. Taking careful aim and adjusting for the wind, the Punisher shoots his enemy.
“Not bad” whispers a voice behind him. The Punisher turns but no one is there.
“I’m sure the stone gargoyle wearing my spare cape is quite dead” says Batman, stepping out from a side alley.
Without any hesitation, the Punisher pivots and begins unloading his two 9mm guns at his strange opponent. Batman is ready. Diving into the alley he just emerged from, Batman leaps to safety. At the same time, he pulls smoke pellets from his utility belt and tosses them on the ground while turning on the infra-red/night vision visors in his mask. The Punisher responds by tossing a grenade into the smoke and diving for cover. The resulting blast is devastating. Cautiously, the Punisher stands, just as a batarang slams into his hand, numbing it, and causing him to drop his guns. Moments later, two more batarangs hit him in the chest and thigh. The Punisher, realizing that his enemy can see him through the smoke and flames, tosses a flash grenade. The scream from his enemy tells him his ploy worked. Running into the smoke, the Punisher crashes into a figure who immediately flips him over onto his back. The Punisher now knows his enemy is a trained fighter. Pulling out his knife, the Punisher moves in, hoping to end it quick. The Batman has other ideas. Easily parrying the injured Punisher’s thrusts, Batman quickly disarms him. Minutes later, Batman is battering the Punisher into unconsciousness.
Standing over his fallen enemy, Batman yells into the night. “I’ve beaten my enemy. Now return the people of Gotham and come out and face me.”
The only answer he receives is a laugh and darkness.
The Winner: BatmanWith a landsliding 93% of the votes, Batman is the winner and moves on to round two. Don’t forget to keep voting for the next battles…
