FF #1 Review

Tagged with: Fantastic Four  Future Foundation  Jonathan Hickman  Steve EptingFF #1

Marvel’s first family gets a new look and a new direction. Today I will be reviewing FF #1. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. After Johnny’s passing, Reed gives Spider-Man a spot on the FF, which now stands for Future Foundation. First order of business is getting settled in. Meanwhile, Aim scientists break the Wizard out of prison and the FF are too late to stop it so they return home for a nice family dinner. After dinner, Valeria reveals that she has invited someone else to join the FF, Doctor Doom. Reed reluctantly agrees. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. Before I dive into it, I have to make one thing clear. I do not like the Fantastic Four. I do not collect it and I rarely pick up any issues. I did get the death of Johnny issue and the final issue and I’m getting this one but I’m done after that. My issue is mainly that I’m not into a family comic book. I like when the adults interact but when kids are involved, I sort of zone out. I have two of my own and I read comics to get away from reality, not remind myself of it. Personal feelings aside, I did enjoy this issue. The new costumes look awesome. Simple, yet very memorable. Spidey’s addition to the team is a nice touch and sort of completes a circle started back in Amazing Spider-Man #1. The action was limited, but nice. The plot was well delivered and leaves many directions where this title can go. The family dynamic was definitely present. The small tribute to the Human Torch was touching and a bit emotional but well received. (Mark my words, he’ll be back.) The art was very nice. That Doom splash was very menacing. (I loves me some Dr. Doom) Overall, a great jumping on issue for anyone wanting to collect the Fantastic Four. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
