So let’s talk about the book. Kate Kildare, the PR person for the X-Men wants to run an article on Magneto that reveals that he is on Utopia without scaring the world into attacking Utopia. She offers him a new image and costume which he rejects. Instead, he does something to publicly save the West Coast. Meanwhile, the rest of the team stop the people who are causing the disaster. And that’s the book.
So let’s talk opinions. I love this issue. It focuses on one of my favorite and most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe. Magneto is awesome. He is uber-powerful and a man that rules with an iron fist. I like the way Kieron Gillen, the new writer, interprets this team. He really has a lot of power to work with as this team looks to be the strongest in a long time. He includes some comedy to lighten the mood. The book flowed very nicely and had a pretty decent plot. If this trend of writing continues, then his run on the book should be a good one. I personally cannot wait to see why Colossus is holding the Juggernaut’s helmet in the letter page teaser. I also guess a love triangle is coming too. It’s so much fun messing with Scott Summers. That guy can never catch a break when it comes to women. The art this issue was great as well. Carlos Pacheco has a long resume and really good face work. He really captures Magneto’s and Namor’s arrogance perfectly. The action scenes are clean and very in-your face. Overall, an excellent jump-on point for new readers. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
