Daken: Dark Wolverine #8The crossover with X-23 continues this issue. Today I will be reviewing Daken: Dark Wolverine #8. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.
So let’s talk about the book. Daken and X-23 stop fighting to catch their breath. Daken leaves and decides to have a chat with Malcolm Colcord to remind him who he’s working for. Too bad X-23 follows him and attacks Colcord. Meanwhile, Daken tries to recruit Gambit but a brawl erupts as Gambit slaps Daken around a bit. Unfortunately it was all a distraction allowing Colcord to drug X-23. Then Daken knocks out Gambit. And that’s the book.
So let’s talk opinions. WOW. That’s pretty much all I can say. This issue was incredible. First off, let’s talk art. Freaking amazing. The shadows throughout the issue adds a sense of dread and grittiness to the story. Gambit looks beyond awesome. It has been a long time since Gambit has been drawn this good. Every splash of him was pin-up worthy. Laura and Tyger were drawn beautifully. The backgrounds were so detailed. The use of Gambit’s powers were visually stunning. Marvel needs to keep Checchetto as the permanent artist on this title because his work was flawless. The story was nice too. I like that the plot is moving along. I love that Daken is still playing the nice guy while being a back stabbing double crosser at the same time. I have always said that Daken is smart and cunning but this issue proves it. He really knows how to play people against each other. I’m sure he’ll eventually double cross Colcord too. That fight against Gambit was super cool. Gambit blew up Daken’s arm. I did not see that coming but it was incredible. This book is incredible. I wish the two current Wolverine titles had half of the story and amazing art that this book had. Then they would at least be readable. This book had it all. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
