Hulk #31Rulk begins his quest to escape the army trying to kill him. Today I will be reviewing Hulk #31. Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.
So let’s talk about the book. Rulk is on the run after being implanted with robots that will kill him if he ever changes back to Ross again. He is then attacked by Fortean again by a new weapon but manages to fight them off. Meanwhile, a new human/android hybrid created during a Rulk battle called zero/one rises up and recruits some help to create a weapon that will kill Rulk. As this is occurring, Omegex is getting closer to earth. In the back-up, A-Bomb, She Hulk and the Savage She-Hulk get tricked into freeing some powerful mind powered creatures from their crystal prison. And that’s the story.
So let’s talk opinions. Picking up where Hulk 30.1 left off, this issue is a classic. It instantly reminded me of the earlier Hulk issues where he just wanted to be left alone and get some food. He’d show up in the middle of a village or town and the people would scatter. Then the army would show up and Hulk would throw them a beating. What a great homage this issue paid to those great stories of old. I like that Rulk is now handicapped. I like that he is suffering. It humanizes him. I hope this lesson will eventually get Ross to fully understand the pain and suffering he put Banner through over the years. The art wasn’t McGuiness, but it was still good. Simple and to the point. I also enjoyed the multiple threats being laid out for Rulk to deal with. It seems that every time he jumps one mountain, two more are in his way. Excellent plot progression and tying up hanging threads. As for the back-up, at least its over. Another threat to the Hulks are created. Big deal. I hope this is the last back-up story we are forced to waste good reading time on. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
