There’s nothing wrong with a big battle, but this is getting ridiculous. At least this time we get some character development, though. At least some of the truth to our Galahad is finally being presented, and its about time. But still, I can’t help but think Krul is having some sort of Brightest Day induced writer’s block. It seems the need to keep things connected to the big story ar making him draw things out longer than they need to be, simply so he can tell the story he wants to tell later without interference. If this is trul the case, I can’t help but feel cheated by DC Comics and their ridiculous need to force writers into aligning with the moronic events perpetrated by Geoff Johns. But I’ll digress on that subject before this review turns into a full blown rant.
The writing seems solid enough for a fight scene that has now lasted one and a half issues too long. There is plenty of use of everyone’s tricks and abilities, and the artwork provided by Neves and Cifuentes remains consistent, at least in all cases aside from the presentation of Etrigan later in the book, as he suddenly doesn’t look quite right by the end. All that said however, all the flash and bells can’t save a story that’s not properly being told. Krul needs to wrap this up by early next issue, or I’m going to have a hard time defending him.
Aside from all this, there isn’t really much to say about this issue. Not enough happened to be really important, though the set up seems to be ready to pay of, and while the action is good, its simply been going on for too long. Here’s to hoping Krul gets things under control and we get back to the kind of stuff that made him such an amazing writer on Green Arrow right out of the gate (see Green Arrow #31, 32 of last volume and #1-6 of the current volume, less certain Brightest Day dictated connections). But that’s all just my take on the issue.
