Kick-Ass 2 #2 Review

Tagged with: Kick-Ass  Mark MillarKick-Ass 2 #2

After a six month nap, Kick-Ass returns for some good old team missions. Today I will be reviewing Kick-Ass 2 #2. Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. Kick-Ass meets Justice Forever and it turns out he knows one of the members, a life long school friend of his. Each member has a sad story about their past that made them want to do this and Kick-Ass is welcomed with open arms. Their first mission in to break up a card game being run by six mobsters. Colonel Stars, a former mobster himself, busts in and he and the rest of the team proceed to beat the holy crap out of the mobsters using lots of violence. Then Lieutenant Stripes asks his puppy to come in for a bite of mobster sausage and meatballs. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. This issue had me falling out of my chair. It was freaking hilarious. I love the whole geekiness that is being portrayed, by a bunch of adults nonetheless. To me, these are children that just can’t seem to grow up. I understand having a trauma ruin your life but dressing up in a costume and going out to fight crime? That’s borderline psychotic. (I know its a comic book, but that is one issue that bugs me.) If it was a team of all children the same age as Kick-Ass, that I can understand. The whole high school pack mentality gets beaten into our skulls daily back then. The story here is building nicely. I love how the subtle hints are dropped for the final battle we all know is coming. I absolutely adore Sofia. (The dog) That is one awesome animal. And the mask and spiked collar is priceless. I sort of have this feeling that one of the team members will end up being a traitor and join Red Mist. (Probably Battle-Guy, Kick-Ass’ buddy) In any case, the action and violence was back in force. The cursing and sarcasm was here as well. The references to current events, making the book more relate-able, were plentiful. A great second issue. If only it would have come out five months ago like it should have, I would have said it was a perfect book. I’m not getting into Romita’s art. You either like it or you don’t. I don’t. End of story. If next issue comes out on time, and contains more of this great story telling, I’m in. (I’m in either way, but I would like to not collect social security by the time issue 6 comes out.) That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
