Wolverine #8 Review

Tagged with: WolverineWolverine #8

The demonic arc finally, (please let it be over), comes to an end. Today I will be reviewing Wolverine #8. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. Inside Wolverine’s mind, a battle is raging for his very soul. Even with the help of Emma Frost and others, Wolverine is failing. With no other options, Nightcrawler releases the Phoenix, hidden deep in Wolverine’s mind. Igniting into the Phoenix Force, she blasts all of the demons as well as everyone else out of Wolverine’s head. In the real world, Cyclops restrains himself from delivering the killing blow to Wolverine’s body as he mutters Jean’s name. After the dust settles, Wolverine sets out on a quest. A quest for revenge. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. Please Marvel gods, hear my cry. Please remove the ridiculous man who is drawing this book from your payroll and send him back to wherever you found him. He is ruining what could have been an amazing display of artwork. I have a feeling that if this book was drawn by anyone with even a marginal bit of ability to separate and distinguish objects on the page, this book would be a thousand times better. Every face looked alike. Every image was blended with every other image. There was little to no attention to minor details. A total visual massacre. At least the story was somewhat bearable. It was nice to see Wolverine’s inner rooms. I found that funny and original. I loved the return of Jean and Kurt, even if it they weren’t real. I also like how the writer keeps the option of Jean and Kurt not being dead still on the table. I am really happy that Wolverine might be heading out alone for the next few issues when he seeks his revenge. (I hope it’s alone. This is a solo book, right?) I am curious to see who the Red Right Hand is and what their beef with Wolverine is. So far this title has been pretty crappy. I really hope a new direction is on the way as well as a new artist. (PLEASE GET A NEW ARTIST!!!) That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.

Again, it’s so frustrating to want to like a book so much and be so turned off by the art. The last issue and this one had decent stories, but the art overshadowed both of them. Not to mention this is a Jason Aaron book; that name must not mean as much to Marvel as it does to folks who follow Scalped. Ouch, hurts to say, but it’s true – get a f*cking decent artist on Jason Aaron’s Wolverine title or I will not buy it anymore.
